Apple loves to innovate, even if it means exposing it`s user base to a bit of pain in the process. Take the iPhone 5 in 2012 when Apple announced that they would be dropping the 30 pin charging port for the lightning port. Four years later apple decided to expose their users to this innovation pain once again and this time decided to double down on it.
Apple made the first innovation when it dropped the headphone jack on the iPhone 7 then again when it dropped every port besides USB-C on the new MacBook. And while users are back-ashing against the move, I can totally see where Apple wants this to go.
Imagine a world in a few years where everything is USB-C. Every charger, every jack, everything is USB-C, it`s brilliant. You can charge your laptop off the same charger that charges your phone. Your head unit in your car will have a USB-C port that will charge your phone as you listen to music, and the days of lining up the pins on a VGA connector when you want to connect your machine to a projector will be over.
Users can call apple stupid for this move all day long, but if the end goal is updating every legacy connector to be on the same page, I`d say the move is brilliant.
