Ground Beef and Rice
A quick, easy and healthy lunch or dinner recipie
Ingredients
Ground Beef
1LB
Onion
1/2
Garlic
1 Clove
Rice
1 Cup
Salt
~1tsp or to taste
Ground Pepper
~1 tsp
Garlic powder
1 tsp
Cumin
1 tbsp
- Optional. I love Cumin so I use quite a bit of it but you can either skip or use ~1 tsp
Oil or Fat
~1 cup
- I personally use olive oil here but you can use vegetable oil, ghee, butter or another oil/fat.
Steps
1. Mince Garlic
Mince an entire clove of garlic, place 1/3 into the a rice cooker or pot and saute for ~5 minutes. Reserve the rest for the beef.
2. Cook Rice
Once the garlic is sauted, add rice and water to the rice cooker or pot and season with salt and pepper.
3. Saute Onions
Dice onions and then add then saute on low with olive oil for ~10 minutes
4. Saute Garlic
Add the other 2/3 of the garlic clove into the saute pan with onions and continue to saute for another ~5 minutes
- If the onions or garlic is started to get to dark and you are not ready to add the beef, take it off heat until you are ready
5. Season Beef
Taking the raw ground beef, season it with salt, pepper, garlic powder and cumin
6. Brown Beef
Add beef to the garlic and onions and cook until brown
- If you are using a leaner ground beef (ie. 90/10), you may want to add some olive oil to add liquid
- If you are using a fattier ground beef (ie. 80/20), you will want to tilt the pan towards the end and extract all excess fat with a spoon.
Notes
- Serve with salad or another vegetable
- If you plan to refrigerate the rice, when re-heating add an ice cube to the top. This will prevent the rice from drying out.
